Spring 1 2025
This half term, we are going to build on our knowledge of colours and relate them to feelings. We will base our learning on the book “The Colour Monster” by Anna Llenas.
Communication and Language: We will continue to develop our language skills through learning phonics, reading, talking about, sharing, listening to and retelling stories. We will encourage verbal language, supported by the use of visual prompts.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development: We will learn the names of the feelings and we will consider the things that make us have these feelings. We will have the opportunity to express our feelings through art and the use of different colours and in our music sessions through singing and playing percussion instruments.
Literacy: We will draw, colour and label our own colour monsters for different feelings and draw and label the things that make us feel happy, sad, excited, angry etc. We will also be learning the days of the week this half term.
Maths: For our mathematical development, we continue to work on our personal targets and as a class we will learn to recognise and name 2D shapes. We will practise sorting objects into colours and each day we will work to develop our knowledge of number.
Physical Development: We will continue to provide the children with hands-on, sensory-rich learning experiences and continue to work on essential life skills, like using the toilet and practising using cutlery at lunchtime, to enhance coordination and independence. We will engage in activities to develop core strength and gross and fine motor skills.
